Shri Ramcharitmanas is the epic-poem composed by Bhakti-poet Goswami Tulsidas ji in 16th century. It is also known as Tulsi Ramayan, Tulsidas Ramayan and Tulsikrit Ramayan.
Goswami Tulsidas ji wrote Ramcharitmanas in Awadhi language (which was the common language of the people back then) to make Ramayan or the story of Lord Ram more accessible to the masses since many people did not understand Sanskrit and could not read Srimad Valmiki Ramayan.
Shri Ramcharitmanas consists of 7 kands or episodes that talk about the deeds of Lord Ram and his entire journey. Shri Ramcharitmanas differs from Srimad Valmiki Ramayan. While Valmiki Ramayan is written in shloks, Ramcharitmanas is written in chaupai format.
