Once, when Lord Ganesh was meditating, Goddess Tulsi saw him and got very fascinated by him. She expressed her desire to marry Lord Ganesh. Lord Ganesh politely rejected her marriage proposal explaining to her that he was a celibate and hence could not marry her. Upon getting rejected, Goddess Tulsi was very hurt and angry. She cursed Lord Ganesh that he would have to marry not just once but twice.
This infuriated Lord Ganesh so much that even he cursed Goddess Tulsi that she would get married to a demon. Goddess Tulsi then repented and apologised for her mistake. Lord Ganesh then added that in Kalyug, it would be Devi Tulsi who would be most auspicious of all plants and bring salvation to people. She would also be very dear to Lord Vishnu and Lord Krishna. But she would not be considered auspicious as an offering to Lord Ganesh because of the curse that she had given to him.
Hence, Tulsi is not offered to Lord Ganesh.
एक बार, जब भगवान गणेश ध्यान कर रहे थे, देवी तुलसी ने उन्हें देखा और उन पर बहुत मोहित हो गईं। उन्होंने भगवान गणेश से विवाह करने की इच्छा व्यक्त की। भगवान गणेश ने विनम्रता से उनके विवाह प्रस्ताव को यह कहते हुए अस्वीकार कर दिया कि वे एक ब्रह्मचारी है और इसलिए उनसे शादी नहीं कर सकते। अस्वीकार किए जाने पर देवी तुलसी बहुत आहत और क्रोधित हुईं। उन्होंने भगवान गणेश को श्राप दिया कि उन्हें एक बार नहीं बल्कि दो बार विवाह करना पड़ेगा।
इससे भगवान गणेश इतने क्रोधित हुए कि उन्होंने देवी तुलसी को भी श्राप दे दिया कि उनका विवाह एक राक्षस से होगा। तब देवी तुलसी को पश्चाताप हुआ और उन्होंने अपनी गलती के लिए क्षमा मांगी। भगवान गणेश ने तब कहा कि कलयुग में, यह देवी तुलसी होंगी जो सभी पौधों में सबसे शुभ होंगी और लोगों को मोक्ष प्रदान करेंगी। वह भगवान विष्णु और भगवान कृष्ण को भी बहुत प्रिय होगी। लेकिन उन्हें भगवान गणेश की पूजा में शुभ नहीं माना जाएगा क्योंकि उन्होंने गणेश जी को श्राप दिया था।
इसलिए भगवान गणेश को तुलसी नहीं चढ़ाई जाती है।
